This isn’t a big surprise as we were anticipating this happening.
Woods and McIlroy both were expected to appear in the event, but the official word still counted as welcome news to tournament director Jeff Sanchez.
Tiger Woods plays his second shot on…
Kuchar, Mahan, and Westwood fulfilled their commitment a year ago, but the other five haven’t yet.
This won’t be Woods’ first trip to the Napa Valley.
With this kind of field the Frys.com Open will boast the strongest field it has ever had in its short history.
Woods and McIlroy are part of the so-called “Turkey Eight”, a group of eight top players who skipped the Frys in 2012 to play in a lucrative exhibition event in Turkey.
Woods’ last event was last month’s Wyndham Championship, where he made a last-ditch effort to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, but finished T-10. Woods last played in the Frys.com Open during the 2011 season, finishing 30th overall with a score of seven under par.
