Reggie Wayne reportedly asked for his release, didn’t think Patriots were fun

Reggie Wayne was a player for the Colts until August 24th when he was traded to the New England Patriots. If Wayne retires, the Patriots can pursue the $450K if they choose as it would be unearned. But he quickly fell out of favor with coach Bill Belichick, and his lack of speed was evident this preseason.

The Patriots open up their season on Thursday, September 10th when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers at Gillette Stadium. The Colts picked up Andre Johnson this offseason, and the combination of him with T.Y. Hilton likely made the organization feel that Wayne was expendable.

She didn’t say why he wouldn’t make it, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter followed up her report with news that he asked for his release. He’s been regularly spotted in the locker room and is eligible to return October. 25.
