Will Jarryd Hayne play in NFL Week 1?

New South Wales fullback Josh Dugan has “spoken with his manager about possibly making the transition” after his predecessor Jarryd Hayne was included on the San Francisco 49ers roster.

Special teams co-ordinator Thomas McGaughey also refused to confirm whether Hayne would make an appearance against the Vikings.

According to the National Football Post, Hayne ran a 4.5-second 40-yard dash, equivalent to the time of San Diego Charger rookie running back Melvin Gordon.

“I guess that s why I temper all this speculation, because I don t want to take anything away from what the man has achieve”, Tomsula said.

McGaughey talked up DeAndrew White, one of the 49ers challenging Hayne for the punt return job.

The three players can contribute in other positions, with Bush as running back and White and Ellington as wide-receivers.

Jim Tomsula said Thursday he had no questions about whether Aussie newcomer Jarryd Hayne could handle punts in a regular-season game. Special teams – you can catch a punt, but can you do other things? Tomsula asked.

“No, Jarryd is a heck of a player, very talented, a young player, but needs to mature a little bit as far as getting experience…”

“In that situation right there, for Jarryd in the preseason, that s something that we wanted to see, him to be able to field the ball naturally and kind of make that kind of play”, McGaughey said.

“So you’ve got that aspect of it. But we’ve also got to stay on the development side of it. So there has to be those techniques, those fundamentals, the developing… that has to stay on course”. This is real bullets…

The 49ers can keep their squad secret until 90 minutes before the game.

Everybody is flying the Hayne Plane right now, but if you look at who led our team in punt returns in the preseason, it wasn t Jarryd Hayne.

“And that first year for all rookie players is, that’s the line that you balance there”.

“With the schematic that we’re installing, how are you practicing within that scheme?” But, he has the ability to get to the ball, he has a nose for it just like a number of guys that we have.

“Obviously Jarryd has the body position, balance and leverage positions”. And working on blocking, pass protections. Reggie Bush, who when he was a member of the Saints had two punt returns for touchdowns, and almost a third, against the Vikings on Monday Night Football, has said he wants the role this season. “When to use them”.

Jarryd Hayne is hoping all the hard yards in the preseason pay off on Tuesday
