The magazine also had an opportunity to speak with game director Hidetaka Miyazaki, who confirmed a desire for magic to play an integral role in players’ approach to combat. Dark Souls II’s New Game + featured new items, weapons, and a handful of surprises that made revisiting the game feel fresh and worthwhile – Dark Souls and Demon’s Souls on the other hand simply raised the difficulty. On that note, though, the second game’s bonfire ascetics and their ability to artificially up an area’s difficulty to NG+ levels won’t be returning.
When it comes to ‘Dark Souls, ‘ magic has never quite hit the flawless balance between fun and useful. This was implemented intending for the players to try out many types of weapons, but even so, I felt they broke too quickly.
Game Informer reports that Miyazaki hinted that Magic would have its own system, providing players with core spells corresponding to new options.
From Software’s Dark Souls III is one of the most highly anticipated games set to release on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
“I personally think the weapons in Dark Souls 2 break a little too easily”.
Hopefully you do Miyazaki, because it was frustrating even watching the lack of durabile weapons in Dark Souls 2. The Los Angeles Convention Center will be hosting the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) which focuses on gaming systems and interactive entertainment, featuring introductions to new products and technologies. For Dark Souls III, From Software is going back to the more traditional Magic Points (MP) bar, which will regenerate over time.
Hidden walls are also returning to Dark Souls, and they will function like they did in the original game.
“This is due to my thinking behind this type of feature”, Miyazaki says. I like to have coincidences happen during battles, or accidental reveals due to swinging weapons around or randomly shooting arrows.
“I’m not sure if the same sort of item will be implemented, but there will be a method for players to re-assign souls”, said Miyazaki.

Miyazaki also explained that spell types will be more diverse, and different types can influence a player’s play style. “Players will be able to have more criteria to accurately choose the different types of spells to best fit their tactics and strategies”, says Miyazaki.
