Cate Blanchett Romances Rooney Mara in ‘Carol’ Official Trailer
The awards-season push is in full swing now at the Weinstein Company, which this morning launched a new trailer for Carol, its Cannes competition pic that landed co-star Rooney Mara a best actress prize there.

Stop what you’re doing: there’s a new trailer for Carol and it’s worth every moment of your time. Friday Night Lights’ Kyle Chandler plays Carol’s husband Harge, who threatens to take the couple’s child away after he catches wind of the relationship.
Despite Haynes’ wink-wink love of Sirk-ian melodrama and all the romantic Technicolour flourishes, Therese and Carol’s relationship looks compellingly heartwrenching – and the film’s been praised for its modern relevance despite the 1952 setting.
The film was written by screenwriter Phyllis Nagy, which is based on author Patricia Highsmith’s novel titled The Price of Salt. In addition to Blanchett and Mara, the film stars Sarah Paulson, Kyle Chandler, Jake Lacy and Cory Michael Smith. Boasting two talented actresses – and no doubt two compelling performances – along with themes of social liberation and the personal epiphanies of Carol and Therese, Haynes’ drama is already primed to be an awards favorite, and we have every confidence that the director will handle this impassioned love affair in a delicate, cinematic fashion.

“Carol simmers with unspoken emotion and desire, condensing volumes into the Brief Encounter-style touch of a hand on a shoulder, into the offer of a whiff of perfume on a pulse point, into Billie Holiday recordings and Carter Burwell’s expressive score.” It’ll be released in theaters on November 20.
