Prisoner escapes during Burlington Co. Jail transport

– Authorities in Burlington County New Jersey are searching for a prisoner who escaped from jail on foot Saturday morning.

The escapee has been identified as 28-year-old Michael Mimms. Upon arriving shortly after 8 a.m., Mimms got away from the transporting officer and fled into downtown Mount Holly, New Jersey, police said. According to police, there are several agencies involved with the search for Mimms including the Mount Holly Police Department, Burlington County Sheriff’s Department along with K-9 units from the Mt. Laurel and Evesham Police Departments. Police cautioned witnesses to refrain from approaching Mimms but to instead call 911. He was additionally charged in Willingboro for unlawfully possessing a handgun at the time of his arrest.

Area residents who see Mimms or notice suspicious activity on their properties are urged to contact police.

Mimms is described as black male, about 5-feet 9-inches tall, 160 pounds wearing a dark shirt T-shirt and long basketball shorts.
