Tomsula unsure if Jarryd Hayne will return punts Monday

But every team must submit a list of seven inactive players 90 minutes prior to kick off. It’s not a guarantee Hayne will be in uniform for the opener.

“OK you can catch a punt, but can you do other things?” According to head coach Jim Tomsula, Hayne is beyond valuable to the 49ers thanks to his ability to play multiple positions and confirmed he would see a lot of playing time after only participating in his first elite football game a month ago.

Tomsula, meanwhile, wasn’t going to tip his hand on whether Hayne would serve as the return specialist, all while offering up reasonsHayne might sit.

As you are probably aware most of the headlines in sports this week have surrounded how well Jarred Hayne has started for the 49ers. “He is the kind of guy … who will continue to ascend (because of) the way he does things”. This is real bullets…

An Australian reporter suggested to McGaughey, jokingly, that his country might declare war if Hayne does not suit up for the game. So we’ve got to kind of keep everything in perspective and understand the preseason is the preseason and right now is right now.

“He’s new, he’s a rookie”, he said.

After the press conference, 49ers beat writer Cam Inman reported Hayne took the practice field wearing No. 44 instead of his usual No. 38, “signifying his role on the scout team to impersonate Minnesota Vikings backup running back Matt Asiata”.

Hayne has been pencilled in as the 49ers’ third running back option and is grouped with Reggie Bush, DeAndrew White and Bruce Ellington as options for punt or kick returner. But from 3,000 miles away it does seem very random that only tom brady got any sort of punishment although it has since been lifted from the deflate gate. and the pats have been fined the draft picks.

Everybody is flying the Hayne Plane right now, but if you look at who led our team in punt returns in the preseason, it wasn t Jarryd Hayne. “You ve got that aspect”, Tomsula said.

Then there’s rookie DeAndrew White.

The 49ers released a depth chart Wednesday ahead of their season-opening game against the Vikings next Monday night, and while the majority of positions have been settled, there are still battles to be won over the next few days.

“Theguys up front and the vice outside, they ve done a great job of blocking and understanding the concepts of what we re trying to do executing the fundamentals of the techniques of the scheme”, McGaughey added.
