Bennett, 45, was arrested early Sunday following an assault in progress call from the Grand Hyatt Hotel and was held on $1,600 bond.

New Zealand actor Manu Bennett, who appeared in the Hobbit trilogy and briefly on Shortland Street, has been arrested in the U.S. and charged with assault.

So far the SAPD hasn’t released many details to local media, but despite his early morning arrest, Bennett was still a hit at Alamo City Comic Con, according to one fan, at least.

In Texas, the charge of assault causing bodily injury is a Class A misdemeanour. He also had a role as the villain Azog the Defiler in The Hobbit: An unexpected journey.

Bennett is best known in comics circles for playing Slade Wilson/Deathstroke, Oliver Queen’s mentor turned adversary, on the first three seasons of “Arrow“.

His next big break came as supporting character Crixus in the Auckland-filmed gladiator series Spartacus followed by the Hobbit trilogies and then superhero show Arrow.
