It was the 12th year that QS evaluated universities.
He said a doubling of citations of DCU research since 2010, and a 58% rise in the number of its research publications captured in the ranking, highlight the success of its strategy to become a world-leading young research-intensive university. “Our continued success as Swansea University enters a new era and promises to bring us significantly closer to realising our ambition of becoming a top-200 global university”. “We’re providing prospective students with the richest picture yet”.
That wage premium is higher than last year’s, though undergraduates still said the return on investment of a graduate education is poor.
The Commission on Higher Education said it would look at the 2015 results, which were not publicly available as of press time, before issuing an official statement.
Trinity College Dublin is down from 71st to 78th, and UCD from 139th to 154th, in the QS World University Rankings 2015/16. It had previously been ranked between 275 and 300.
The University of Warwick – part of the elite Russell Group – was ranked at 48. 3,539 institutions were considered for inclusion and 891 ranked.
National Tsing Hua University was ranked 155th, ahead of National Chiao Tung University (182nd), National Cheng Kung University (224th), National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech) (260th), National Yang Ming University (338th), National Taiwan Normal University (376th), National Sun Yat-sen University (379th), and National Central University (397th).
However, Malaysian universities excelled in two of the five broad faculty areas table, with Universiti Malaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia among the world’s Top 100 for Engineering and Technology and UM and USM among the Top 100 for Social Sciences and Management. The University of Waterloo, which rose to 152nd from 169th, was the lone exception.
Nonetheless, the QS rankings proved employability was “something that universities will want to work on”.
Education Secretary Angela Constance said: “I am very pleased to see Scottish universities again performing so well in the annual QS rankings”. “That’s the same as Germany, a country with more than double the population and GDP”.
The rankings include universities from 82 countries.
