Most of the times, Qualcomm Life’s platform has been used for remote monitoring outside of hospitals.

Capsule was purchased from majority stakeholders JMI Equity and Bulger Capital Partners, although the financial details of the agreement were not disclosed. The acquisition of Capsule extends Qualcomm Life’s connected health offerings into the hospital in an effort to create a more seamless care continuum from hospital to home and all points in between. The system collects data from various medical devices, then formats that data and passes it onto systems for clinical documentation, clinical decision support, alarm management, or clinical research.

“As healthcare continues to move into the home and ambulatory settings and outside of traditional care areas such as the hospital, the convergence of medical device data from wherever the patient is located is critically important”, said Capsule CEO Gene Cattarina in a statement.

Qualcomm subsidiary, Qualcomm Life, which specializes in connected health solutions, announced the acquisition of Capsule Technologies, a provider of medical device integration and clinical data management solutions. The company said that integrating Capsule with its Qualcomm Life’s wireless ecosystem and expertise of connected medical devices, the company is confident of creating strongly connected health ecosystems. “The data generated from medical devices and sensors presents an exceptional opportunity; previously disparate symptoms, biometrics, vitals and patient activities can now be integrated”, Valencia noted.
