Matt Damon catching heat for comment about diversity on ‘Project Greenlight’
Strap in. It’s going to be a bumpy night. As it turns out, this brief episode begins by wasting some time behind the scenes of a PG promo shoot, which doesn’t exactly bode well, either.

Or, more likely, he just doesn’t get it. He’s actually silencing her as he mansplains diversity in film to her. “Hoo. Wow”. There’s no shortage of diverse and interesting backgrounds for the contestants, which is great despite knowing we probably won’t see most of these people after this debut episode.
The way the show works, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck narrow down directing finalists by gathering a team of A-list writers, directors and producers to help them decide.
The show features a number of filmmakers trying to win a budget of $3million by showing their scripts to a panel. “Pete Jones – I can bust his balls because we’re friends – won season 1, [but] he wouldn’t have made the top 100 this year”, Joubert says.
Speaking of that script! Overall, Greenlight fits very comfortably back onto our television screens and becomes a classy addition to the competitive reality genre even if their ultimate selection of director was clearly designed to elicit the kind of conflicts inherent in the reality genre. The film centers on a man who gets dumped on his wedding day and later marries a black prostitute named Harmony.
“User Zoé S. joked, “‘Hi black woman. Hey, what in the world could go wrong?
Damon interrupted Brown, saying, “When we talk about diversity, you do it in the casting of the film, not in the casting of the show”.
Matt Damon is the Harvard-educated son of a teacher.
“Hoo!” Brown responds. “Wow, okay”.
Some people on social media have now called out Damon for his comments.
The wildcard is Mann, who everyone seems to feel is the most talented filmmaker.

Someone else confessed: “I honestly didn’t expect this from him”. Well, I’m quite sure there were plenty in True Grit?Oh. Despite their claims of “merit”, it’s tough to look at all the finalists’ submissions and not conclude that Damon and Affleck picked the cinematic enfant bad that they once saw themselves as, rather than the best person to direct a Farrelly Brothers comedy. As an illustration, the Greenlightteam doesn’t just pick the director but prepares everything by picking the star of their series and shaping the entire season. He wants to shoot on film (which they appear to be okay with) and “not to throw Pete under the bus”, he wants to bring on the screenwriter of Boys Don’t Cry.
