The Warriors are moving in the direction of hiring two-time MVP Steve Nash as a player development consultant, a source said Tuesday. Nash eventually moved on to play for the Lakers in 2012, and Kerr went back to the announcing table before taking over as coach for the Warriors last season. ESPN reports Nash is in advanced negotiations to be a part-time player development consultant with the team. He had his golden years with the Suns in the mid-2000s, the central part of a fun and exciting Phoenix squad. Thus, Nash was forced to sit out the entire season, his last under contract to the Los Angeles Lakers. Nash will now work with helping players hone their skills, but probably doesn’t have to do much with reigning MVP Stephen Curry, who Nash is a pretty big fan of watching. Nash is already the general manager for the Canadian basketball team, he is in the process of making a film with his company and now he has another title to add to his resume.
Spending eight more seasons in Phoenix, Nash enjoyed arguably the most successful stretch of his career. According to ESPN, Nash had been pursued by the Dallas Mavericks in June and Cleveland Cavaliers in March to return as a spot-duty point guard, but that Nash refused.

Since retiring, Nash wasn’t planning on going into coaching, but since this is a part-time role and a ideal culture fit for a player of his talents, joining the Golden State Warriors is a win-win for everyone involved. This is a great move fora team that is set on improving on their championship year.
