Cops Say College Professor Left Apology Note After Killing Girlfriend

Cleveland Police Chief Buster Bingham said Lamb evaded police throughout the day, but police finally got a bead on him when the tag on Prentiss’ black Dodge Avenger, which he was known to be driving, was picked up coming across the bridge from Arkansas. Midway, the professor apparently jumped out of the vehicle and took off by foot. It wasn’t our intention for it to happen this way.

“He made corny and dorky look good”, Hairston said. DSU’s classes will remain closed for Tuesday, but the school will open certain offices, such as counseling, and is planning a vigil for Schmidt as well.

Officers in the two cities said they had not uncovered a motive for either slaying. Bingham said it was still early in the investigation.

Brandon Beavers, an education major, said he had a class with Lamb past year.

A massive manhunt to find Lamb was launched by multiple law enforcement agencies across the state Monday evening.

At the time the fugitive told he had no intention of going to jail before shooting himself in the head. However, Lamb lived together with Prentiss in Gautier, Mississippi, about 300 miles away.

Lamb had been teaching at Delta State University since 2009.

“I thought the world of him“, LaForge said.

There is also no evidence that Schmidt was in a relationship with lamb’s girlfriend.

Charlie King was in a history class down the hall from where the shooting occurred.

“We don’t know why this man did what he did“, he said.

He said, “There were like people banging on the doors to have somebody let them in”.

He gave no reason for the killing, authorities said.

Police ushered the students into another building and questioned them.

“Senseless, just totally senseless”, Unruh said.

From left: Dr. Shannon Lamb, 45, is suspected of killing his live-in girlfriend, Amy Prentiss, 41, along with a fellow male university professor.

Also during the search, police discovered a hand-written note signed by Lamb. She and her friends were in high school, and he was the cool older guy who tried for several years to teach her to play guitar.

“She was completely devastated, ” she said of his daughter. He instructed authorities to “take care of her [Prentiss]”.

She said no one was surprised when he landed a tenure-track position straight out of graduate school, a rare achievement for a young scholar.

Fatal shooting took place at Delta State University in Mississippi, U.S.

“He was a super competent human being”.

“He was a remarkable student”, Karen Manners Smith, a professor of history, said. “He was an absolutely delightful student”.
