High School Football Player Takes Off Opponent’s Helmet, Whacks Him With It

A game of pig skin (sorry, American Football) got completely out of hand at the weekend when a high school player was hit with his own helmet. Barstoolsports.com posted a video of the incident on Tuesday morning beneath the headline: “Here Is One of the Dirtiest Football Plays You’ll Ever See”.

The Linden player was not ejected from the game, as the referees did not see the hit that took place away from the play. After appearing to wrestle the helmet off an opponent, a Linden High School defensive lineman proceeded to bash that same player in the head with that helmet during a routine second-quarter running play in a game against Immaculata High School at Linden’s Tiger Stadium on Friday night.

The Immaculata offensive lineman needed 10 stitches after the game, but avoided major injury. Immaculata Athletic Director Tom Gambino believes the officials must not have seen the incident in full. Linden police say the incident is under investigation by the Juvenile Bureau to determine if charges will be filed.

“They’re dealing with it appropriately, and they’re taking it very serious”, NJSIAA Assistant Director Jack DuBois said.

“The member school with which the individual is associated may also be subject to disciplinary action if it is found that the member school’s policies, actions, or failure to act, substantially contributed to the individual’s conduct”, NJSIAA wrote.
