When Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette was abducted yesterday from Blairmore, Alta., her smiling face and story quickly appeared on television screens, websites, and radio, following the well-established Amber Alert protocol.

Blanchette was described by friends and family as a devoted single father who shared custody of Hailey with his former girlfriend, Cheyenne Dunbar, who lives in Edmonton. That alert has since been expanded into British Columbia and Saskatchewan, plus south of the border in Montana.

Blanchette, who labored as a prepare dinner in a restaurant and was described as a doting father by associates and his boss, had many legal convictions between 2010 and 2012.

Hamori said potential witnesses should not approach the suspect or suspects, and should instead call 911.

“This type of incident combined with the scene at the residence we found is concerning to the highest degree”, he said.

The news ends two days of shock and heartbreak for residents of the small community near Crowsnest Pass, where Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette was snatched from her home and her father was killed early Monday morning. “He was taking good care of her”, she said.

Neighbour Angela Mathieson said Blanchette loved being a father.

She was supposed to have been dropped off at her mother’s home Kevin Dunbar, the girl’s grandfather said.

“It’s important that the media focus on Hailey right now and the fact that she’s still not found”, Harrington says.

Tracey said Blanchette had worked at the bar for the last three years. “A lot of people hear this information and they go, ‘oh my gosh, that’s really sad, ‘ as opposed to going, ‘OK, this is very bad, I’m going to keep my eyes open, ‘” Dzikowicz said in a telephone interview. Colleagues spoke fondly of him, and his adoration for his daughter was well-known.

“The RCMP extends its deepest condolences to Hailey’s family”. His missing 2-year-old daughter, Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette, still has not been located.

An Amber Alert was issued in September 2011 when a three-year-old boy Kienan Hebert went missing. He was returned to his home by the abductor four days later
