School bus crash kills 2 students, seriously injures 3
TWO high school students have died and two are seriously injured after a bus sailed over a highway overpass in Houston, Texas.

The driver of the auto made an unsafe lane change and her Buick LeSabre struck the bus, which veered to the right, struck a guardrail and then went off the overpass, Houston police said.
Terry Grier, superintendent of the Houston Independent School District, stated how overcome with sadness everyone is over the tragedy and asked that everyone involved be remembered in everyone’s prayers. Instead, she says she learned of her daughter’s death through an automated voicemail from the school district, according to Click2Houston.
The accident is now being investigated by Houston ISD Police and HPD.
Witnesses said the bus nose-dived and flipped before landing on its side along the freeway embankment.
A child has been hospitalized after suffering severe burns in an alleged cooking accident, said police.
Until more is known in the Houston bus accident, identities of the victims won’t be released.
“It should make us all think about what we do and how are kids are safe on the buses and we are going to make sure that they are”, said Raney, (R) District 14.
The Texas Legislature has worked to make seat belts on buses mandatory, but funding has been a problem.
“The bus driver has been with HISD for about three years and has a clean driving record”.
Furr High School is also home to the REACH Charter High School, and it’s unclear which school the students attend, Click2Houston reported. Nathan Graf, the district’s general manager for transportation, said it’s optional for students to wear the belts because enforcing their use is too hard for drivers. The driver of the school bus was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are reviewing the bus’ security footage. Records show that the bus was last inspected in July, the district said.
