Microsoft to launch Lumia 950, Surface Pro 4 on October 6th

The Lumia 950 XL has made headlines in recent weeks, especially after Windows Central released render images of the new mobile device, dubbed the “Cityman”, via its website.

The Surface Pro 4, on the other hand, is expected to have an ultra-thin form factor, bezel and large display like the previous Surface series.

The Surface Pro, for example, is a full-powered PC that looks and acts like a tablet.

“This will come as a flawless chance for Microsoft to one-up their long-time rival, Apple, as the Cupertino-based company has recently released a direct competitor to the Surface Pro line-up, the monolithic 12.9″ iPad Pro complete with an Apple Pencil and aimed to the enterprise. The two high-end phones have been codenamed Cityman (Lumia 950 XL) and Talkman (Lumia 950).

Seems like Windows 10 Mobile may also see a launch on the same day (or soon after it) as announcing new smartphones without a new OS makes little sense.

Microsoft has now sent out invites for its media event stating that “We have some exciting news to share about Windows 10 devices“.

According to Computer World, the company did not reveal the details of the upcoming event in its invites. More than likely this will be the long awaited Surface Pro 4 and maybe even a few new Lumia smartphones to go with it.

As expected, Microsoft will host a hardware-focused event on October 6.

The smartphones will obviously come with the mobile version of Windows 10, and the Surface Pro 4 will, in all probability, have an extensive range of chipset options from Intel (from Core M Broadwell to the new Skylake processors). Alleged pictures of both devices have already leaked online along with its specifications.

The event will be live-streamed from Microsoft’s website on October 6th at 10 a.m Eastern Time. There are rumors that Microsoft will be utilizing Windows Hello support for the said device with a fingerprint scanner on its updated refined Surface keyboards.
