Did Putin call Elton John? Singer says yes, Kremlin says no
The British star on Tuesday posted a message on Instagram, thanking Putin for calling him to discuss gay rights in Russian Federation and inviting him to Moscow.

Either Vladimir Putin’s office is out of the loop when it comes to his phone records, or Elton John has been the victim of a crank caller who can pull off an effective impression of the Russian president.
An global sized case of he-said-she-said has broken out between two of the most unlikely sources imaginable – the powerful Russian President and a revered pop star.
Putin evidently called Elton after he heard about those comments. I’d love to sit down with him and talk to him…
“Taking into account that there are many insinuations of late, we regard such information with extreme caution”, he said.
“He said, ‘Thank you, you’ve made my day”.
Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov twice told reporters the call never happened, according to BuzzFeed, which reported he did not rule out the possibility that Putin might meet the singer “at some point”.
John, who is gay, believed he was getting a Kremlin call because he told the BBC Saturday he’d like to meet with Putin and discuss Russia’s “ridiculous” treatment of gay citizens.
“I’d love to meet him”.
Russian Federation has faced global criticism for its harsh laws against homosexuality.
Elton John has proven that the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
However, Putin is willing to talk with John about any issues he may have, Peskov added. The singer said that his request for a conversation was “probably pie in the sky…”
Sir Elton has accused Putin of saying “stupid things”, such as when he warned gay people travelling to the Winter Olympics to “leave the children in peace”.

The singer has been openly critical about the apparent intolerance of the Russian state towards the LGBT community and has campaigned to end the country’s 2013 legislation, which bans the “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations among minors”.
