WDBJ Shooting Survivor Recalls Harrowing Moments of Attack: ‘I Am Ready’

“I knew, the next shot, he was just gonna shoot me in the head, because that was what he was doing”.

Gardner said she is still amazed she did not die and the bullet that hit her back did not paralyze her.

“It was very chaotic”, Gardner said.

“I was waiting for him to shoot me in the head”. “I realized it was quiet and everybody was down”.

Ms Parker and cameraman Adam Ward were both killed in the shooting, which went to air, while Mrs Gardner was shot in the back.

Gardner said after the initial shots she instinctively dropped to the ground and got into the fetal position, pretending to be dead.

‘They say the world goes in front of you, and it did real fast.

Doctors removed one of her kidneys and part of her colon as a result of her gunshot injuries. Vicki’s Home! Vicki has been released from Carilion Memorial Hospital.

Following a police chase, Flanagan, 41, killed himself five hours after the attack atSmith Mountain Lake, southeast of Roanoke.

Last week, Gardner’s husband said in a statement that she is planning a tribute to the two journalists who lost their lives.

Gardner said that Flanagan, a former WDBJ reporter, walked away but she believes he returned to shoot her “just in case”.

Gardner said she has watched the horrific video, so her mind would be “at peace” that what she thought happened actually did.

“Why save me and take them” she said of Parker and Ward. “And by golly, I will fulfil it”.
