Just when you think you have the all the answers, the New England Patriots change the question.

The Houston Texans finally decided it was time to cut the cord with wide receiver/kick returner Keshawn Martin.

The answer: He might not.

Martin was a fourth-round pick out of Michigan State in 2012 and totaled 416 yards and three touchdowns on 38 receptions while also contributing on special teams. He’s returned 68 kickoffs, averaging 25.1 yards per return. Because he’s coming from O’Brien’s system, Martin will likely have somewhat of a grasp on the Patriots offense when he arrives.

Martin’s work as a returner might have appealed to the Patriots, who might not want to expose Edelman and Amendola to those duties given the shortage at the receiver position. Martin was often used as the Texans’ slot receiver while playing for former Texans coach Gary Kubiak.

Many were shocked that Keshawn Martin made the team’s opening day 53-man roster. Martin isn’t a high-profile acquisition, but he adds important depth in multiple roles.
