Uh-oh – Facebook just made it MUCH harder to avoid Event invitations
But now, your friends will be able to see if you looked at the event or not, forcing you to take a stance on the party.

Facebook has added read receipts to events on the site, inching closer to its inevitable future as a dystopian internet wasteland where it is impossible to stealthily get out of annoying social situations.
Facebook’s latest feature allows the host of an event to see who viewed and ignored the invite.
The “Seen” feature is available in Groups and in Messenger now. There’s no immediate way to disable the feature.
The feature – still in testing at the moment – will show when friends that have been invited to an event have “Seen” the message. But if you have a snoopy friend, they could always check whether you’ve signed on to the network or simply message you again to employ another read receipt tracker. There is no easy way to turn them off; you must simply not click on the message.
Facebook reportedly hopes that the new tool will help people be sure that they have invited the right people, and know that invites have actually arrived.
The addition of read receipts here will give hosts the ability to see who has received invitations and checked updates posted to the Event page.

Just like Facebook’s other iterations of the read receipts, there is no option to opt out of the confirmations in Events.
