Local teen arrested for alleged plot against pope

In 2012, the resale of tickets – often at a high mark-up – to a Superstorm Sandy benefit concert at Madison Square Garden spurred legislation in New York that would ban the reselling of tickets to charitable or not-for-profit events for more than face value.

The papal visit poses enormous security challenges for US authorities tasked with protecting a religious leader known for his popular touch and love of crowds.

“As early as now, the Washington government is already busy assuring Pope Francis” visit will be peaceful and quiet.

It will be his first time in Cuba and the US but his tenth trip overseas since he succeeded Benedict XVI in 2012.

He also suggested he could return to the Church in the future.

He said there was no symbolic significance to the pope’s decision.

A confidential informant had been helping authorities to keep track on the teen, the source told NBC New York.

Then at 8 p.m., another 10,000 tickets will be made available to the papal Mass on September 27.

Francis was widely recognised for the key role he played in Cuba’s reconciliation with the United States this year.

Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington, said he hasn’t seen the text of Pope Francis’ speeches, but thinks his message will call for a sense of solidarity.

Fr. Lombardi stressed that the fundamental character of the Pope’s visit to Ground Zero is the interreligious encounter set to take place there, adding that “the ecumenical, interreligious moment of the trip is at Ground Zero”.

Evidently some of those lucky enough to have tickets to see Pope Francis during his upcoming visit to the U.S. are scalping them.
