Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson has moved into second place in the CBS News/New York Times poll. Carson said he would be humble enough as president to bring together the finest minds in the country to address problems.
Carson said it was all too easy for Islamic militants to take advantage of the relaxed standards for refugees.
Donald Trump may still be leading the Republican field, but fellow outsider candidate Dr. Ben Carson is closing in, and both are leaving the rest of the field behind. Every candidate who has attacked Trump-with the exception of fellow nonpolitician Carly Fiorina-has fallen in the polls. Marco Rubio with only 21 percent. Rand Paul also made the cut for the main debate. But he was going to say…
When asked on how serious they supported Republican candidates for president, 61 percent of registered Republican voters said they supported Carson. But he stumbled on the debate stage, finished fifth in Iowa and dropped out of the race.
“There’s just a lot of frustration with traditional politicians, and voters want to see something different”. “And, as with all polls, this is a snapshot in time and expect things to change”.
“Immigration is going to be a huge topic, as it is Trump’s signature issue”, Perez said.
Who will emerge as the chief alternative to Trump? Carson may be on the wrong side of history, but his discourse has been more reasoned. At a campaign event in California this month he questioned Trump’s faith.
Silver put Trump’s and Carson’s chances of winning the nomination at “maybe about 5% each, somewhere around there”.
I get it. It’s not in your DNA, especially when someone casts an unwarranted and nasty attack your way first.
The comment drew a quick rebuke from Trump. “I really wasn’t. I was really talking more about mine”. Pressed, Christie admitted he disagreed with Carson, but he seemed hesitant to go negative on him.
Carson called a truce, and apologized. Support of Trump and Carson is partly based on a protest mentality.
Among Democrats, uneasiness with Hillary Rodham Clinton is growing and creating a possible opening for Vice President Joe Biden, as he considers making a late entry to seek the party’s nomination. In stark contrast to Trump, Carson is unfailingly courteous, and he is very popular among Christian evangelicals. It is selling ball caps, lithographs of Carson, an abridged version of his book “Gifted Hands, and is using his campaign bus to raise money by listing names of children whose parents pay for it with a $50 donation”. Carson told CNN’s John Berman on “The Lead”.
Aides to Carson did not respond to interview requests from The Baltimore Sun.
The WBUR survey is also reflective of Republican voters across the nation who are tired of career politicians and would rather elect someone who’s worked outside of Washington.

When Trump and Bush were matched against each other, 47 percent of Republican voters selected Trump compared to 32 percent who chose Bush.
