In what will likely be his final Meaford-to-Collingwood and back bicycle ride on Terry Fox Run day is Meaford resident Hugh Timmerman.

It was 35 years ago that Terry Fox first embarked on his Marathon of Hope across Canada, and on Sunday Sept. 20, supporters in Langley City and Walnut Grove will continue to honour his legacy.

Today the Terry Fox Run is hosted is countries all over the world and supports over $20 million in research in Canada each year.
Fox made it over 5,000 km in 143 days but his cancer forced him to stop, and took his life soon after. “I have to.” That cure continues to elude researchers, but outcomes for many cancer patients have improved dramatically over the past three decades – thanks in part to the more than 1,200 cancer research projects the foundation has funded. Last year, the run drew 427 participants raising $16,497 for the foundation.
Cancer, what he thought he had beaten when doctors amputated his leg, had spread to his lungs. That’s the thing about cancer. It happens all the time, to other people. It gives it more meaning. “I could have sat on my rear end, I could have forgotten what I’d seen in the hospital, but I didn’t”.
In conjunction with the Terry Fox Run, there will be a number of speakers, entertainment and family activities taking place at Assiniboine Park.
