Mayweather happy to call it quits, as planned
Floyd Mayweather performed one last masterpiece on Saturday night (Sept. 12), when he took an easy 12-round decision over Andre Berto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. signed off from professional boxing as he had planned on Saturday, going out unbeaten and on his own terms as “The Best Ever” after improving his career record to 49-0. I’m knocking at the door; I’m close to 40-years-old.
“My career is over”, he said afterward. My record speaks for itself. However, that didn’t change the result of his 49th win without defeat that was confirmed by judges Dave Moretti (117-111), Steve Weisfeld (118-110) and Adelaide Byrd (120-108).
Floyd Mayweather expressed his hope he can help develop a fighter to emulate him after declaring himself retired following his win over Andre Berto in Las Vegas.
The Mayweathers have gone from relatively common people to newly rich during Floyd Mayweather’s 19-year career, during which he has earned more than $700 million.
Other boxing enthusiasts also took to social media to share their thoughts on Mayweather’s final fight.
“I just try to stay positive and keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best”, he said about the slow ticket sales. “I’m leaving with all my faculties”.
“I’m financially secure and I’m in good health”.
“I pushed him to the limit”, Berto said.
“But I was once told, once you get a certain amount of money, it’ll be hard for you to get up (for a fight)”. Collins, when asked how Floyd will be remembered, said that although Mayweather does not have a style that he finds exciting, Mayweather will indeed be remembered as a classy, hard-working boxing master. “I know no one who made upwards of $800 million from the sport”.
Mayweather insisted that he is hanging up his gloves to end a boxing career that basically included staying away from punches and using in-ring smarts to deter any exchanges.
Many pundits have doubts over Mayweather’s insistence that his career is now over, and point to the American’s unexpected U-turn when he came back from a 21-month retirement to fight Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in September 2009.
As expected, Mayweather’s recent fight did not go by without a bit of controversy.

But Mayweather – widely acknowledged as the best boxer of his generation – was adamant it was time to let someone else grab the limelight.
