Dharamshala: Two unidentified men allegedly gang raped a 46-year-old American woman in the tourist town of Dharamsala earlier this week.

A case under Section 376 of IPC has been registered by the police.
She said she was drugged and raped on Monday night when she was returning to her hotel after buying groceries from the Kotwali Bazaar market.
Meanwhile the police investigation has found the statement given by the rape victim to be confusing. They are also waiting for medical examination of American women. “The matter is being investigated”, Renu Sharma, a senior police official told Asian News global .
The identity of the USA citizen has not been revealed, but she is a resident of California, initial reports say. The incident occurred as India’s tourism industry is taking a hit over fears of pervasive sexual violence.
India has been witness to several high profile rape cases recently.
In January, authorities arrested five men for the gang rape of another 22-year-old Japanese tourist in India’s eastern city of Kolkata in November a year ago .
More than 132,000 cases of sexual violence against women were reported in the country of 1.3 billion in 2014, according to official data.

Meanwhile, a Saudi diplomat who was accused of repeatedly raping and torturing two Nepali maids in his home outside New Delhi has left the country.
