He debuted the first full track from the album, an acoustic “Bad Blood” aching with nostalgia, on Zane Lowe’s Beats1 radio show. Lowe notes that on Monday, he’ll be conducting the first interview with Adams about the album, and there’ll “be a very special guest on the phone”; it’ll be surprising if this guest is anyone but Taylor Swift herself.

Adams’ take turned the more aggressive, drum-heavy track into a guitar-driven alt-country ballad. In case anyone still doubted he was serious, he followed up the announcement by premiering his version of “Bad Blood“…which is surprisingly good, considering it’s the weakest single on the original version of the album. Sharing a countdown clock of sorts, Swift also said about how influential Adams has been on her own music.

TSwift, who has previously expressed support for the project and her admiration for Adams as a songwriter, shared the news as well, calling it “surreal and dreamlike”. Any rumours that he was not serious about completing his endeavour were put to rest when he posted regular video updates with snippets of his Swift covers. “Badass tunes, Taylor. We’re sandblasting them, and they’re holding steady”. “My favorite part of his style of creating music is his ability to bleed aching vulnerability into it, and that’s what he’s done with his cover project of my album 1989”.
