While Deschanel’s Jess is away on jury duty, Fox’s character Reagan – a pharmaceutical sales rep – will rent out Jess’s room. “I’ve been a fan of her comedic skills since ‘This is 40, ‘ and I’m so excited to have her on the show”. Fox, 36, has been added to the cast as a recurring character that will temporarily fill the vacant spot of main cast member Zooey Deschanel, who is now on maternity leave, in “New Girl” Season 5.

Deschanel filmed the first four episodes of the new series earlier this year, and will not appear during a chunk of the new season while out on maternity leave.

“We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part”, executive producer Liz Meriwether said in a statement.

Megan Fox is returning to television after almost 10 years.

The “New Girl” crew will have to make some room in the loft this season for a brand new roomie.

Megan earned her role because Deschanel and her husband – Jacob Pechenki (who only Wednesday this summer) – welcomed a new girl of their own to their family in August. Last seen in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Fox will next reprise her role of April ONeil for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Half Shell and James Francos all-star comedy drama Zeroville. Additional guest stars in the upcoming season include Fred Armisen (“Portlandia“), Taran Killam (“Saturday Night Live“), Nasim Pedrad (SCREAM QUEENS), Rob Riggle (FOX NFL SUNDAY) and John Cho (SLEEPY HOLLOW), as well as Julie Hagerty (“Airplane“) and Henry Winkler (“Arrested Development”).
