Uber CEO wants every auto to be an Uber vehicle

Speaking at the opening of the Dreamforce conference, Dylan Steele, Senior Director of Product Marketing, Salesforce, said, “We are watching the increasing volume of data coming off of connected devices, and we are thinking about how we can help customers deal with those massive amounts of data”.

One drive for 2015 was for attendees to donate to a project to amass one million books, which will be distributed to under-privileged children in the US.

So, while Salesforce is No. 1 in customer relationship management, the CEO clarified that it used the cloud to obtain that leadership position. “We don’t want that”, he said, in response both to Benioff and to criticism the company has faced in New York and other large cities for jacking up rates during emergencies. “Satya flipping that switch has really been super powerful for us”. That is the exciting thing. “No, no this is not going to work, sorry about that”, Nadella said, with a laugh.

He later cited examples of Uber partnering with Dreamforce in the cloud software company’s efforts to collect one million books for k-12 students, and said Uber drivers would be delivering toys to children in low-income households this holiday season.

Driverless cars could be seen as a threat to companies like Uber since they eliminate the need for human drivers, but Kalanick said it made sense for Uber to start researching the technology.

“The taxi system was broken – there were just not enough taxis in San Francisco”, he said.

“Then we apply intelligence to it”, Salesforce co-founder Parker Harris says. An all-Uber city wouldn’t have traffic or parking problems, pollution would decrease, and unemployment would drop, according to the Uber CEO.

Salesforce IQ suggested tasks function recommends specific actions to sales reps and the closest connections function identifies the best person in a company to provide the best introduction to a target contact or company. “What if it were zero?”

For Kalanick, the company’s analytical abilities are perhaps its most valuable asset. Being a driver acts as an additional income stream for majority , enabling them to “fill in the gaps” in what they want in their lives by giving them extra buying power.

For the moment though, his focus is on making Uber cheaper than owning a vehicle , and helping drivers predict where demand will be.

Benioff praised UberPool, with its unintended benefit of sharing rides with people who can turn out to be new business contacts. He was joined onstage by Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins, who talked about his company’s investment in IoT and the Salesforce integration.

Cisco Systems, which is also an early IoT Cloud customer, is using the service to monitor event data generated by its networking hardware, Benioff said.

Western Union is waiving the transfer fees for people wiring money to their relatives and friends affected by the crisis, with part of every transaction in the European Union going to refugees, as well as to charities such as the Red Cross and Caritas, said Ersek.

“The Salesforce and Microsoft partnership has been beyond our expectations”, Benioff said during his keynote.
