Diet blamed after obese girl (3) is diagnosed with Type 2 illness
A study of 6,467 children from England found that no garden access for lower educated households (children age three-five years) increased the odds of obesity at seven years by 38 percent. And they were 32 percent less likely to die of any cause.

The SGLT2 inhibitors are poised to become a mainstay treatment for diabetes.
Merck & Co. The drugmaker recently reported that its best-selling diabetes drug Januvia didn’t harm the heart.
Heart attacks, strokes and other cardiac issues are the leading cause of death for diabetics.
In some cases, those medications were linked to higher death rates from heart attack and stroke.
In a note to investors, Sanford Bernstein analyst Dr. Tim Anderson said the study results suggest a much more promising future for Jardiance.
“The EMPA-REG OUTCOME trial results are encouraging for healthcare professionals and their patients”, said Dr. Christopher P. Cannon, Cardiovascular Division, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, who was not involved in the study.
The case is being presented at the European Association of the Study of Diabetes conference in Stockholm.
“It may help us turn the corner a little bit on managing diabetes and reducing the risk of cardiovascular events”, said Richard Chazal, president-elect of the American College of Cardiology, who called the findings “pretty exciting”.
But they said a child’s level of education could lower their risk of becoming fat.
The overall safety profile of Jardiance was consistent with previous trials.
The need for such improvements couldn’t be clearer.
A three-year-old obese girl has been diagnosed with diabetes in the United States – one of the youngest ever people with the condition, experts have said. In the Thai langauge, diabetes is referred to as the “sweet urine disease”.
Nissen noted that some of the study’s findings were less than stunning.
After a median follow-up of about three years, about 10.5 percent of those getting Jardiance had suffered a heart attack, a stroke, or had died from cardiovascular causes, compared with 12.1 percent of those getting a placebo. Perhaps more importantly, they worked with her parents to swap out sugary drinks for water, fast food for home-cooked healthier meals, and inactivity for walks, swims, and outdoor playtimes.
“When you have an effect on death, you have to pay attention”. “In this study, empagliflozin was shown to prevent 1 out of 3 cardiovascular deaths”.
Monitor blood glucose levels and take medication as directed by doctors. “It is probably going to be a more popular drug because of that”. All other studies so far have failed to show a benefit.

The results were particularly striking because almost four-fifths of the participants were already taking standard medicines to control blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol, plus taking either Jardiance or a dummy pill.
