Konami ceases triple-A console production on all but PES

This year also saw the departure of many long-time members of the Konami team. At the time rumors wanted us to believe that Konami won’t be making big budget games anymore. And Pachinko machines… lots and lots of pachinko machines. He joined Konami in 2013 and was an overseer for the Fox Engine that was utilized in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Pro Evolution Soccer.

For years Konami has been producing fewer and fewer games, across an increasingly narrow range of franchises, to the point where Metal Gear and Pro Evolution Soccer are now their only major series left in regular production.

[Original story] Reports are surfacing that Konami’s head of technical strategy Julien Merceron – who oversaw the FOX engine’s creation – has departed the company, and that it will no longer be producing triple-A titles other than PES going forwards.

On the one hand, this is obviously bad. The KONAMI booth at TGS 2015 will feature world’s first playable METAL GEAR ONLINE demo kiosks, allowing a maximum of 16 players at once to try the game in advance.

On a positive note though, the company heading into the less publicised mobile game market means Konami can’t fuck people over much more than they have now.

Of course, all of this is now just conjecture. Now, it appears that Konami is starting to let go of its dedication to video game console software and jumping onto the bandwagon of mobile gaming.
