State epidemiologist Dr. Benjamin Chan said most people infected with West Nile won’t have any symptoms, while others might exhibits some flu-like symptoms.

The West Nile Virus has an average incubation period of 2 to 14 days according to the CDC.
The state Department of Health and Human Services says it is collaborating with the city’s health department on notifying people about the recent detection.
Aside from these methods, residents are also advised to regularly apply mosquito repellant on their skin to prevent mosquito bites. The treatment will occur from 7:30-11 p.m. Thursday in an area of Oakley that is bordered on the north by Fetzer Lane and Monet Drive; on the south by West Cypress Road; on the east by Picasso Drive; and on the west by Jordan Lane, Fourth Street and Orchard Park Drive.
“While we’re seeing fewer mosquitoes in the traps, the incidence of West Nile is stable”, said Environmental Health Director Ronnie Nease. Vector control district officials said that no special precautions need to be taken during the fogging. Three animals as well as three people were EEE-positive. Symptoms include a fever, headache, body ache, vomiting, joint pains, a rash or diarrhea.
The death of an individual infected with West Nile Virus marks Maryland’s first reported casualty due to the disease this year. Residents can do their part by eliminating standing water in and around their property and reporting breeding sources to the Health Department at the number below.
MDA officials say the mosquito spraying program will continue through September 22.
