Tennessee’s jobless rate unchanged for third month

Alabama’s unemployment rate is unchanged from last month at 6.2 percent.

The August rate was.4 percentage points below July’s 6.4 percent, the department said.

While Utah’s jobless rate climbed in August, the national rate dropped to 5.1 percent.

Year over year, non-farm employment has added 52,500 jobs.

It was the third straight month that unemployment has dropped and was the largest one-month decline since 1983.

Wage and salary employment increased only slightly in August, by 900 jobs. Elmore County was tied for the second-best rate at 5.5 percent, behind only Shelby County.

Virginia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level since September 2008.

The U.S. Labor Department says weekly applications for unemployment aid dropped 11,000 to a seasonally adjusted 264,000.

There was an increase of 6,700 non-farm jobs from July to August, with the largest increases occurring in leisure/hospitality, government and trade/transportation/utilities jobs. Lexington and Charleston had a 5.3 percent rate in July.
