EU Jewish Congress Could Sue Iceland Capital over Israel Boycott
The city council of Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik, adopted a decision to boycott all Israeli products, not only settlement products due to Israel’s continued occupation of the West Bank and its policy of apartheid.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry condemned the move, and, in an apparent reference to Iceland’s status as a hotbed of volcanic activity, said “a volcano of hatred spews forth from the Reykjavik city council building”.
Björn Blöndal, the chairman of the Chief Executive Board of Reykjavik City Council, described the bill as a “peaceful way to protest injustice”. For no reason or justification, aside from pure hatred, there are calls to boycott the State of Israel. It added that they hoped someone in Iceland would come to their senses so this “one-sided blindness” against the “only democracy in the Middle East” comes to an end.
The city council in Iceland’s capital voted to boycott Israeli goods as long as the nation continues its illegal occupation of Palestine.
Iceland Magazine reported on its web site that the measure was put forward by Björk Vilhelmsdóttir, a councilwoman with the Social Democratic Alliance, who is retiring from politics.
“This is clearly a discriminatory move and we have already sought advice that it might break worldwide law and treaties”, Dr. Moshe Kantor, President of the EJC, said. While ADL does not support counter-boycotts, we imagine Iceland’s leading exporters of goods and services are more concerned than Israel about the consequences. “Once again, we see one nation, over all others, subjected to a ban and boycott, and we would like to ask those that sought this boycott if it is a mere coincidence that this nation also happens to be the only Jewish nation in the world”.
