DICK ADVOCAAT admits that success for Sunderland this season will be to avoid another relegation battle after a summer transfer window which has left plenty of question marks hanging over his best team.

Sunderland are without a win this season but Advocaat predicts brighter times ahead.

“We had a very good game, created chances and were a bit unlucky at the end with the goal we conceded”.

And after the restart Sunderland, who fielded Ola Toivonen, Fabio Borini and Jordi Gomez despite a lack of regular first team football this season, exhausted which allowed Tottenham to take command and clinch a first league win themselves.

The 22-year-old has struggled at the start of the current campaign, though, as the Chingford-born striker waits for his first Premier League goal after failing to find the net against Manchester United, Leicester, Sunderland and Everton.

Mauricio Pochettino was “very happy” with Son Heung-Min’s debut display for Tottenham during the 1-0 victory against Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s a disappointing result, but not disappointing the way we played”.

Son should get another chance on Thursday as Spurs host Azerbaijan team Qarabag in the Europa League and then, next Sunday, there is a tough game against Crystal Palace.

Defoe was a firm fans’ favourite during two spells at White Hart Lane while Kaboul was one of Pochettino’s vice-captains past year , and Walker expects both to put in a shift.

“We wish him all the best because our relationship was not very good”.

“Normally, we have played with a holding player, but now we are playing more with an attacking midfielder”.

However, just as the game looked to be heading to a goalless stalemate, lovely interplay between Kane and substitute Eric Lamela carved open glaring space in the middle of Sunderland’s defence, which Mason acceptingly charged in to. He is from the region and did really well for me last season. “I think I can be a better player if I train under Pochettino”. “I’ve obviously missed a few games but I’m just thinking about now and I’m happy to be back playing”.

Still, Pantilimon believes that the team “look in good shape” but insists that the squad “have to be like this for the rest of the season“.
