Nick Diaz hit with five-year ban for marijuana use

The anger has come fast and furious.

NSAC chairman Francisco Aguilar said the issue was more than just the positive test for marijuana. And I really think they really should free Nick Diaz, but you know what, it’s not [UFC President] Dana [White’s] decision either.

Diaz, at times, is his own worse enemy, and he does appear to have at least a minor dependence on marijuana, but former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones tested positive for cocaine and is still under no official suspension.

Ronda Rousey is not pleased about Nick Diaz’s five-year suspension from MMA.

I believe Nick Diaz on this assumption. Although Jones has been indefinitely suspended by the UFC, the NAC has taken no action against him.

“I’m pretty pissed off”, Diaz told FOX Sports after his suspension was handed down.

With Olympic crossover and current UFC flyweight contender Henry Cejudo putting the NAC on blast and refusing to fight there, we’ve all been waiting to see if anyone else follows suit.

“Others may want to roll the dice in Nevada”, Cejudo’s manager Bill McFarlan wrote in a letter to MMAFighting.com.

It is safe to say she feels marijuana should be treated much differently than performance-enhancing drugs. “That just doesn’t make sense”.

In a separate MMA Fighting report, Rousey said this test invades the privacy of a fighter and added that she will defend Diaz since he is her close friend. After all, Nevada is the same state that granted repeat steroid offender Vitor Belfort a license to fight for a title at UFC 187, a year after failing a drug test for elevated testosterone. And who decided that cannabis is a performance ENHANCING drug?

The 32-year-old Diaz has a medical marijuana license in his home state of California, however marijuana is banned by athletic commissions in competition and Diaz failed to disclose any medical marijuana use in the month leading up to UFC 183. It’s only tested for political reasons.

After being accused of doping by Chris Weidman in the lead-up to their fight at UFC 187, Vitor Belfort has finally fired back.

Diaz has been suspended twice in the past for failed drug tests. The decision drew immediate and widespread criticism across the sport for its severity and seemingly arbitrary nature. In one of Diaz’s heartfelt interviews he keeps repeating, he is no steroid user, a rarity in his field. “I was doing a treatment and paid the price”.
