Adam Pearson quits Leeds United role to focus on Hull FC

In a statement released on Leeds’ official website, Pearson also showed his appreciation to Cellino while insisting the club would be back in the Premier League soon.

Cellino and Pearson met on Sunday to talk about the resignation plans, before Pearson’s resignation was announced after Tuesday’s 1-0 home defeat to Ipswich Town. “Nobody saw it coming”.

“Obviously when you have someone like Adam Pearson with his experience and football knowledge, and all the values he stands for, I was very much looking to communicate with him on a regular basis”.

The former Hull City owner was known to be the driving force behind Leeds United’s most settled spell under majority shareholder Massimo Cellino, and the news of his resignation has sent shock waves through fans of the West-Yorkshire club. I wish Uwe and his coaching team all the very best in their quest for a successful season and it is reassuring to see the club moving forward again in such a positive manner.

The news is disappointing for Leeds as Pearson seemed a calm, experienced presence behind the scenes and had reduced Cellino’s day to day involvement with club affairs.

“I will be keeping the role open for him and I hope to welcome him back at some point in the future”.

He left his position as Leeds United’s commercial director in 2001 to purchase Hull City FC which at the time was near the bottom of the third division and in administration.

“It is with great disappointment that I have to confirm I’ll be taking a break from Leeds United and football in general, in order to focus on other personal and business interests”, he added.

Cellino has no plans to replace Adam Pearson
