A suspect was arrested Friday in the sniper shootings that have rocked the Phoenix area along the Interstate 10 freeway, Arizona Gov. Doug Duceyannounced via Twitter. “The detectives are taking a lot of time trying to add up various factors in evidence, we will not be releasing evidence to the media because it could jeopardize the investigation and arrests”, Graves added.

Ducey released no other details about the suspect but commended investigators for their work and urged Arizona residents to call authorities if they had information about the shootings.

Since August . 29, there have been 11 confirmed shootings of vehicles in the Phoenix area involving bullets or other projectiles. Only one related injury was reported: A girl, 13, whose right ear was cut last month when a bullet pierced the windshield of the SUV she was in.

The shootings have prompted several school districts to keep their buses off freeways, and some motorists have altered their commutes to avoid driving I-10.

“We can not give you that at this point”, says Bart Graves with DPS.

Without elaborating, Graves ended his news briefing by saying, “since a week ago today, we’ve made headway”.

Police said the 11 shootings are still being investigated as of Friday.

There has not been a confirmed shooting, however, since September 10, marking eight days without an incident.
