New Canaan’s Max Pacioretty has been named the 29th team captain in Montreal Canadiens’ history.

In truth, I was a supporter of PK Subban getting the captaincy but Pacioretty is an excellent choice as well. “It’s something I’ll always remember”.
Andrei Markov, Tomas Plekanec and P.K. Subban, who served as associate captains on last year’s team, will be joined by Brendan Gallagher as “A” wearers this season.

A left winger on the Canadiens’ top forward line, Pacioretty set a career mark with 67 points and led the team in goals with 37 last winter. I just ordered this jersey with pacioretty on the back with the C on it!
Pacioretty read a long statement in French to begin his press conference Thursday. He has been taking French lessons and hopes to master the language spoken by most of the team’s fanbase within a few years. “This is my home now”. During his first two seasons at the professional level, Pacioretty spent time with both the Canadiens and the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs. But even he wasn’t surprised it went to Pacioretty.
“Ultimately, a captain is a guy who’s gotta take control”, Subban said. Bergevin did not release the results, but said Pacioretty won a majority and there was no need for a second ballot. He started as a player who would get down on himself too easily if he wasn’t scoring goals. Gallagher was a captain in junior hockey with the Vancouver Giants.

The 26-year-old Pacioretty is now recovering from a knee injury he suffered during an off-ice workout in Florida in July.
