Butte County unemployment rate down in August
This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 6.1 percent for California and 5.2 percent for the nation in August.

The pace of job growth slowed dramatically in the Bay Area and California in August, according to a new report released Friday by the state Employment Development Department.
All four counties in the region saw unemployment rates tick downward in August, with Weld County enjoying a slide of three-tenths of a percentage point from July.
The San Diego County unemployment rate was down to 5.1 percent in August, an improvement from the 5.4 percent rate of July, which was probably an aberrant spike. The county had 144,574 people employed and 5,780 looking for work.
Colorado’s unemployment rate was down from 4.6 percent for the same month a year ago .
Orange County jobs – compiled from a employer survey – jumped to 1.54 million workers last month, up 2,200 from July. A year ago, California’s jobless rate was 7.4 percent.
California’s jobless rate remains above the national average of 5.1 percent in August. Kern manufacturing expanded by 300 jobs, or 2.1 percent, while retailers grew by 600 jobs, or 1.9 percent, the EDD reported.
DEED Commissioner Katie Clark Sieben called the private sector job gains healthy, noting they added more than 12,000 jobs during August.

The largest growth areas in the past year were for professional and business services, adding 13,000 workers – administrative and support and waste-management services jobs, at 9,200, accounted for 71 percent of the increase for that sector, followed by professional, scientific and technical services, 3,700 added jobs, with 100 management jobs.
