“So do they want to arrest him to make headlines or for the case”, the lawyer asked and added that Mr Bharti was willing to sit across the table with his wife and resolve the issues between them.
Former Delhi law minister Somnath Bharti on Tuesday moved the High Court seeking protection from arrest in a domestic violence case filed against him.
Bharti’s wife Lipika, who was present in the courtroom, opposed the anticipatory bail plea, saying “my small kids are suffering. On hearing my cries, the neighbours came to intervene and it was only then that Bharti controlled his dog”, she said in her complaint. Sources said the party was upset with Bharti as it is unable to contact him. She has alleged that while she was pregnant, Mr Bharti, in an attempt to force a miscarriage, ordered his dog to attack her.
On Bharti having got interim relief from Delhi High Court which has restrained Delhi Police from arresting him till Thursday, Mitra said, “I think it’s good for Mr Bharti”.
Representing accused Somnath Bharathi lawyer indicated in the court that his client won’t be leaving the nation or will abscond is he is granted bail.
“Hence, the invocation of section 307 IPC is merely a ploy to harass the applicant (Bharti)”, his petition said. Bharti was denied anticipatory bail on Monday in a domestic abuse case and is also facing charges of attempt to murder. Earlier, the cops raided several places in Agra following the NBW issued against him. After Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party assumed office to form the government in Delhi they dropped Somnath Bharathi from allocating any cabinet level post or ministry portfolio.
