Israeli fighter jets struck two security bases and empty field in the Gaza Strip late Friday night after Palestinian militants fired rockets into the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon, and near the city of Sderot, earlier in the day.

Israeli media said that one of the two rockets damaged an Israeli bus in the town, and an Israeli woman was lightly injured, according to the report.

An extremist group that supports the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), purportedly claimed responsibility for one of the rockets fired at Israel, Reuters said.

“Moments ago, sirens sounded in Sderot and the Sha’ar Hanegev regional council as a rocket was launched from the Gaza Strip and hit southern Israel, landing in the Sderot area”, a statement issued by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said. However, Israel held Hamas movement, which has been ruling the enclave and controlling it since 2007.
