All the Moments You Missed From New York Fashion Week

What would New York Fashion Week be without celebs filling the front rows of the most buzzworthy designers’ shows?

It was as eclectic as it was different, a riot of different fabrics and colors, pointed flat baseball-style shoes and embellished stilettos, and Andy Warhol-like pop prints fashioned into suits, dresses and jackets.

Even heavy hitters such as Lacoste Creative Director Felipe Oliveira Baptista concede athleisure is more than a trend. Made in New York , which works to benefit the city’s fashion industry, and programs to provide bridge loans to help fashion designers get their products to market are important tools in supporting fashion and our economy. The far-flung stimuli converged into an explosion of fashion that featured a particular interest not recently explored on his runways: as he put it, “my love of high and low and taking ordinary and making it extraordinary”. In the midst of that parade of Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, and the rest of your average model types was a friendly face that people got excited about, Beth Ditto. She was probably the biggest chameleon of all the shows-she was in at least five of the ones that I saw via livestream, and I was only able to actively identify her in two of them.

Ditto shared a backstage picture with Jacobs on her Instagram account after her big appearance. In 2012 it was reported that Fashion Week contributed an estimated $850 billion to the New York City economy.

She was last seen on the catwalk in 2010 when she rocked the runway or Jean Paul Gaultier. This may have been ambiguous to most guests when a dancer fell while walking down the concrete runway. “I’m not good at pulling off natural looks”, she said.

It was humid, sweaty AND rainy outside – typical crummy Fashion Week weather – but inside the Tadashi Shoji show, it was a cool, serene Japanese garden.

This fashion week, the public was drawn into the action like never before, with ticket lotteries for some show seats, glimpses of the runways at outdoor venues and via screens broadcasting some of the action. It means a lot to us for her to be present and supportive like that. We’re totally sure that will be our favorite GIF of the season.

“We are focused on creating the best possible experiences that extend beyond a physical location and moment in time”, said Mark Shapiro, chief content officer for IMG, in an August 6 statement.

Then there was GIVENCHY, which showed in New York rather than Paris to mark the opening of its new store.
