The full league table will be released this weekend. Its previous best was fifth place in 2009.
The University of Buckingham, which this year joined forced with Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust to launch the UK’s first independent Medical School, has been awarded the ultimate accolade – University of the Year for Teaching Quality – by the Times and Sunday Times University Guide.
The university is now ranked 33rd in the United Kingdom and is the sole representative from Wales in the top 200 world rankings.
“Almost 90 per cent of the work submitted for the 2014 Research Excellence Framework was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent, confirming its place among the top 10 United Kingdom universities for research”.
Aberystwyth, too, has good cause for celebration, making Wales’ biggest rise of 14 places – from 93rd in 2015 to joint 79th in the latest table.
“The dropout rate is among the lowest in Britain, at little more than three per cent”. “We remain 100% committed to becoming a top 20 United Kingdom university”.
Alastair McCall, Guide editor, described the university as: “the epitome of what a good university should be”.
President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Christopher Snowden, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Surrey has been named overall “University of the Year” and “University of the Year for Student Experience” recognising the dedication of our staff and our commitment to students”.
“The fact that senior members of staff within the university and members of university council really care about the experience students have at Surrey is, in my opinion, what has driven and will continue to drive the university’s success”.
We treat our students as individuals and have an open door policy when it comes to seeing lecturers and seeking any sort of help.

“This latest news is a welcome success story to add to Coventry’s recent achievements, and while rankings such as these are a useful reference point – particularly for students and parents – we are nevertheless determined to define ourselves by what we’re achieving above and beyond our league table position”.
