While Samsung has filed for the Turtle Glass trademark, it’s unknown if or when it plans to bring its glass technology to market.

It will supposedly be used to protect a range of mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets, cameras, and music players. And it’s no wonder that the product is called a Turtle Glass – turtles do have some hard-shells on their back! According to a report by Sammobile, Samsung’s display division recently issued a registration for a protective glass technology in the Korean Intellectual Patent Office.
Nowadays, nearly every smartphone that it’s not relegated to the “entry-level” category is using one version or another of Gorilla Glass.
Gorilla Glass is a protective screen layer designed to prevent damage to the display. With the codename Project Valley, the smartphone with foldable display might have Turtle Glass adorning its screen and is expected to arrive next year. Basically, it will be Samsung’s very own scratch-proof glass display to replace Gorilla Glass.
Digital Trends reported that Samsung wants to work closely with Corning on the Galaxy Alpha, so a phone with “a sophisticated look” can be produced without sacrificing functionality.
Samsung likes to do things on its own, like it made its own Tizen OS, Exynos – ARM based System-on-Chips (SOC’s) and much more.
Previously, Samsung temporarily closed its doors to Qualcomm’s processors in its recent flagships.

Turtle Glass may mean what its name suggests: hard, scratch-resistant glass displays taking inspiration from turtle shells.
