Simply Stylish: Exciting shows, gorgeous clothes at New York Fashion Week

Businesswoman and fashion maven, Alison Vaughn, reflects on Tracy Reese 2015 New York Fashion Week Show. Plus, it seems like more and more designers are live streaming their runway shows on their websites or via video sharing platforms like Periscope.

If we learned anything at this runway show, which was said to be inspired by muses Jane Birkin and Anne of Avonlea, it’s that culottes are here to stay. It’s something I just can’t miss. Models strutted down the runway in everything including colourful pleated skirts, tailored tops and plaid patterned dresses, rocking chic flat shoes in black or white. Participants acknowledge that (i) Coach shall not have any liability to them in connection with the promotion, save in respect of fulfilment of the prize; and (ii) the Evening Standard shall not have any liability to them in connection with the fulfilment of the prize.

Those who follow Mr. Jacobs on social media have seen the fruits of some of her labors (such as the short ribs she cooked for him and Terry Richardson recently), or his warm tributes to her (after the “incredible dinner” she made for him, Naomi Campbell and Anna Sui).

I love the excitement around Fashion Week. The show is being simulcast in cinemas all over the world – UK-dwellers in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Belfast all have the opportunity head to select Odeon cinemas to pick up a free ticket to watch the show in real time. Or old fans, if you’re one of the ones who’ll be taking a second look.

Eccentric and gothic but feminine, sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy at Rodarte said they were inspired by poets Emily Dickinson, novelist William Burroughs or Canadian singer Leonard Cohen.

The result: Not only is it a logistical nightmare to attend back-to-back shows more than a few subway stops away, but a feeling of anonymity replaces one of camaraderie in style. The Master Schedule outlines each day’s events with times and names, and encourages more eager parties to contact designers themselves for final confirmations on locations. The answer to our question lies in the simple fact that today, not only do the vast majority of American citizens know about the New York Fashion Week, but that the majority of global citizens know about it. Even more dramatically, the public access to the Fashion Week has become something astoundingly open, something, perhaps, the founders of the NYFW never believed possible.

“For us to really do our first nearly full women’s show made us a little uneasy and took us to a new place”, Osborne explained backstage after the show.

Our favourites were the printed culottes that looked fashionably formal in black, all-over floral print (from shoulder to toe!) ensemble as well as a much-needed remix on pinstripe pieces and wide-lined, loose-legged pants .

“It’s something that was done when I worked in Paris for Christian Lacroix”, Copping said in a backstage interview. The pajama influence was here, with long flowy duster-style coats and drapey trousers and dresses.

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Wang had plenty of support from his celebrity friends.

The stylist to superstar Lady Gaga debuted his own line of women’s ready-to-wear Monday night, with his celebrity client there before, during and after the show. As a self-proclaimed fashionista, I am all about style.
