Two Metro Detroiters attending college in Daytona Beach, Fla., were shot and killed Thursday in an off-campus apartment by a male roommate they were apparently trying to evict, WFTV-9 reports.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement confirms York Zed Bodden, 27, was arrested in North Miami around 12 p.m. Friday.

Police said Carswell and McDonald suffered gunshot wounds to the head. “When they went to stop him, they fled and went high speed”, said Chitwood. Authorities said that some time overnight Bodden hung himself and died.

They also found Parham critically injured, gunshots his face and shoulder, Chitwood said.

There have been nine Bethune-Cookman students wounded in shootings over the past seven months.

Chitwood say the women were shot in the head and the man was sprayed with bullets.

“Over a fight over rent money is basically what it comes down to”, said Chief Mike Chitwood of the Daytona Beach Police Department. Bodden regains custody of the firearm ad racks it because it somehow jammed and he knows what was about to happen and says I’m going to stand here and get killed.

Bethune-Cookman University’s first priority is the safety and well being of the students.

The man had been out on bond on a separate domestic abuse charge, police said.
