Mourinho defends players after Chelsea’s defeat at Everton

The Blues suffered their third Premier League defeat of the season after Steven Naismith scored a flawless hat-trick against the defending English champions.

Premier League tradition stipulates that home managers allow the away boss to go first with post-game interviews so they can leave.

With just four points out of a possible 15, this has been their worst start to a season since 1986.

Somewhat bafflingly, Mourinho felt his side “deserved more” on Merseyside, claiming his team’s every mistake was punished by Naismith.

“The big concern is everything goes against us”. Every mistake we are punished, immediately.

“We need to win a couple of consecutive matches”. And we don’t deserve this result: for the way the players start the game, finish the game.

City manager Pellegrini has high hopes for the Nigeria under-20 global and admits the player’s development persuaded him he did not need to bring in a replacement after Edin Dzeko left for Roma.

“Mourinho knows he will find himself under mounting pressure if Chelsea’s form doesn’t improve quickly, but the Portuguese coach is confident he can bounce back from the “worst results” of his glittering career”.

And he acknowledged that morale among the squad is at a low point.

Mourinho, who had before the start of the season prided himself in rising to defense of his staff, was criticised for his treatment of Chelsea’s medical staff, having demoted team doctor Eva Carneiro’s to training ground roles.

The player, meanwhile, did his level best to show why Chelsea should have bid £100million for his services. Obviously there are some doubts.

“I don’t think there is a better manager than me to come to Chelsea and to do my job”.

“He would never left Everton down”.

The result was in stark contrast to the corresponding fixture last season when the Blues ran out 6-3 victors on Merseyside, and Martinez was pleased with how his players coped against Jose Mourinho’s side this time around.
