The 38-year-old has been planning a return to MMA after a 2012 retirement, leading many to suggest that the Russian fighting legend could finally make his way to the UFC.

Fedor’s opponent and further details on the event will be announced at a later date.

In a major announcement made on tonight’s Bellator: Dynamite show, former PRIDE Nobuyuki Sakakibara announced his return to MMA, and he’s bringing Fedor with him.

“I’m a fighter, and I’m ready”, Emelianenko said during the broadcast.

Fedor Emelianenko and Nobuyuki Sakakibara are working together again.

Dynamite 2 will emanate from Tokyo, Japan, live on New Year’s Eve, airing live and free on Spike TV.

Sakakibara said he would not disclose the name of his new company or the name of the December 31 event at this time.

Bellator is partnering with former Pride President Nobuyuki Sakakibara to put on the MMA extravaganza and the event will be broadcast in the United States to Spike’s 93 million homes. Phil Davis submitted Emanuel Newton in the first round of his first fight in the four-man tournament and then landed a looping left to knock out Francis Carmont, a substitute for an injured Muhammad Lawal who dominated Linton Vassell earlier in the evening, in the finals to win a shot at McGeary’s light-heavyweight title.

Bellator are believed to be a partner in the upcoming show, meaning that we should anticipate seeing a number of fighters from their roster competing on the NYE event. While his English wasn’t solid enough to transcribe, he did say that he hasn’t spoken to Dana White personally, but he plans on announcing who he’s signing with in a couple of weeks.
