Though Geelani has been invited by OIC to its conferences in the past as well, he couldn’t attend any of these meetings as he had not the travel documents.

Sources said that Geelani, if allowed to travel, would apprise OIC leadership about present situation of Valley, and “will urge them to press India to stop human rights violations perpetrated by its forces in Kashmir”. Geelani’s daughter was seriously ill in Saudi Arabia and the separatist leader wanted to meet him. “Geelani has decided to participate in the meeting and has started to fulfill the necessary formalities in this regard”, a Hurriyat spokesman said.

Though he could travel to Jeddah, this time around he is using the travel documents to visit New York to attend the OIC meeting. He said that an important conference of foreign ministers of the Muslim countries is being held in New York and Geelani Sahab has been especially invited.

The Mirwaiz said he would write a detailed letter to the OIC about the current political, social and religious scenario in the state if he was not allowed to participate in the meeting.
